The Smile Makeover Process

If a smile makeover is what you hope to achieve, you will first need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Kostas. During this visit, he will examine your smile and recommend which treatments he believes will offer the greatest results. After formulating a treatment plan, you will have the ability to review it and ask any questions you might have about the proposed strategy. Once you are both in agreement regarding how you will go about achieving your new smile, you will schedule the necessary appointments to start treatment.

Depending on which services you will undergo, a typical timeline for each might look something like the following:

  • Porcelain Veneers – 2 dental visits
  • Zoom! Teeth Whitening – 1 dental visit (1 hour)
  • Take-Home Teeth Whitening – About 2 weeks
  • Metal-Free Restorations – 1-2 dental visits (tooth-colored fillings = 1 visit, dental crowns and bridges = 2 visits)
  • Cosmetic Bonding – 1 dental visit
  • Gum Recontouring/Crown Lengthening – 1 dental visit

Treatments such as dental implants and/or Invisalign can take months or years depending on the severity of your problem.

Benefits of a Smile Makeover

Apart from the improved aesthetics you will achieve with a brand-new smile, there are other benefits you will achieve with a smile makeover. Increased confidence and the opportunity to improve your oral health are just two additional benefits you will receive. By removing stains, discoloration, chips, cracks, gaps, and other imperfections, you are significantly reducing your risk for tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and other dental problems that can negatively impact your smile and overall health.

Smile Makeover FAQs

How Many Treatments Can You Include in a Smile Makeover?

Smile makeovers can include any number of cosmetic dental treatments, based purely on the patient’s needs. One patient may want to address dental stains and discoloration with teeth whitening, and another person’s makeover may treat chips and cracks with veneers or metal-free crowns. During your consultation, you and Dr. Kostas will discuss your goals and budget to create an optimized treatment plan.

Is a Smile Makeover Safe?

Cosmetic dental procedures are designed to address aesthetic imperfections without harming your teeth or gums. Dental bonding and teeth whitening treatments do not use any toxic chemicals, and while veneers and crowns require enamel to be altered, they make up for it by protecting the teeth afterward and involve no long-lasting negative side effects. However, not all patients make good candidates for all cosmetic dental treatments, and you may have to have issues like tooth decay or gum disease resolved so your smile can be strong enough to undergo a procedure.

Does a Smile Makeover Hurt?

While it’s reasonable to wonder whether an intensive program of cosmetic dental treatments will hurt, Dr. Kostas will ensure that the process is as comfortable and pain-free as possible. Some cosmetic dental treatments like dental bonding and teeth whitening are so noninvasive that no anesthetics are necessary. While veneers and crowns require teeth to be reshaped, these treatments use local anesthetics to render these procedures painless. While you may experience some discomfort or sensitivity after some of these procedures, this will fade away over the following few days.

Do Smile Makeovers Have an Age Limit?

While cosmetic dental treatments are not suitable for small children, patients of any other age may benefit from a smile makeover. The determining factor in someone’s candidacy for a cosmetic dental treatment is usually the state of their oral health. While tooth decay and gum disease may preclude you from treatments, resolving these issues can give you the healthy foundation you need for stunning cosmetic results. However, teeth must be mature enough to receive teeth whitening, so Dr. Kostas recommends that a patient be at least fourteen before undergoing this treatment.

Can a Smile Makeover Change Your Life?

While some people might think that a smile makeover would be a frivolous expense, the truth is that having a beautiful smile can greatly improve your life. It’s much easier to commit to excellent oral hygiene and avoid harmful oral habits if you are proud of your smile, which can prevent oral injuries, gum disease, and tooth decay. Addressing misalignments in your teeth can prevent neck pain, backaches, and headaches by reducing strain on the jaw. Being proud of your teeth also makes you more likely to smile, which reduces stress and releases your body’s natural feel-good hormones.
